I’ve been a coach for almost 10 years now and worked with 100’s of clients to create healthy habits, strong bodies, and a happy body image. Today, I am going to share the top 3 things you need to know about transforming your body with strength training and nutrition.
Transforming your body isn’t about crash diets, punishing workouts, or feeling miserable in the process. It’s about strength training, fueling your body with real food, and creating habits that you can stick to for life.
Let’s dive into the top 3 things you need to know to lose fat, build muscle, and feel your absolute best.
Strength Training: The Secret to Transforming your Body
I’ll be honest: most women I work with are hesitant to start strength training at first. They’re often worried about “getting bulky” or feel intimidated by the weight section at the gym.
But here’s the truth: strength training is the game-changer when it comes to transforming your body. I’ve transformed my body using strength training and seen clients do the same- trust me when I say this is the real deal.
When you lift weights, you’re building lean muscle—muscle is what gives you that toned, lean look that so many women are after. There’s so much more to strength training and nutrition than just looking amazing in your favorite jeans—check out all the additional benefits here.
If you’re new to strength training, don’t panic. You don’t have to lift crazy heavy weights or spend hours in the gym. A simple, consistent plan (like the one I’ll give you below) is all you need to get started.
Here’s what you need to know to transform your body with strength training:
1. Progressive Overload is the Secret Sauce
To see real changes in your strength and body composition, you need to challenge your muscles progressively. This means gradually increasing the weight, reps, or intensity of your workouts over time.
Think of it like leveling up in a game—your body needs consistent challenges to grow stronger. Start where you are and aim for small improvements each week.
2. Form and Consistency Matter More Than Heavy Weights
You don’t need to lift the heaviest dumbbell in the gym to get results. Proper form and consistent effort are far more important for preventing injuries and building strength.
A well-executed bodyweight squat beats a sloppy squat with a heavy barbell every time.
Pro tip: If you're new, start with foundational movements like squats, push-ups, and deadlifts, and prioritize perfecting your technique.
3. Strength Training Isn’t Just for Muscles—it’s for Longevity
Beyond aesthetics, strength training is one of the best things you can do for your long-term health. It boosts metabolism, improves bone density, and protects you against injuries as you age. Plus, it’s a game-changer for your confidence and energy.
Nutrition: The Foundation of Transformation
You’ve probably heard the saying: “You can’t out-train a bad diet.” It’s true. Strength training will help you build muscle, but what you eat is what fuels that progress—and helps with fat loss.
You don’t have to go on a restrictive diet to see results. In fact, I’d argue that the more restrictive the plan, the more likely you are to fall off track. Instead, it’s about balance:
- Protein: Helps build and repair muscle (and keeps you feeling full!).
- Veggies and Fruits: Loaded with nutrients and fiber to support your goals.
- Healthy Fats and Carbs: Yep, you can eat carbs and still see progress—when you choose the right ones and stick to balanced portions.
Nutrition doesn’t have to be complicated. When you work with me, I’ll teach you how to build balanced meals in a way that works for your lifestyle—not some cookie-cutter plan.
The 3 Most Important Things to Know About Nutrition
1. Your Body Needs Fuel, Not Deprivation
The key to fat loss and muscle gain isn’t eating less—it’s eating smart. Focus on nutrient-dense foods that fuel your workouts and recovery. Think lean proteins, colorful vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats.
Deprivation diets only lead to burnout and cravings, while proper nutrition supports your goals and energy levels.
Pro tip: Aim to include protein, veggies, and a healthy fat at every meal for balanced energy and satiety.
2. Protein is Your Best Friend
When it comes to building muscle and losing fat, protein is non-negotiable. It keeps you full, helps repair and grow your muscles after strength training, and supports a healthy metabolism. Aim for 1-2 palm-sized portions of protein at every meal and snack.
Some of my favorites are: greek yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs, grilled chicken, tuna, and lean ground beef.
3. Sustainability is Key
Forget crash diets or extreme plans. If it’s not something you can do long-term, it’s not worth starting. Nutrition should feel sustainable and enjoyable, not like punishment. Small changes—like prepping your meals or drinking more water—add up over time to create lasting results.
A past client opened his personalized nutrition report for the first time and said “I’m a little thrown off, is this right? I’ve only ever done this by cutting carbs out completely”. When he saw how realistic the plan was that I’d built him he thought for sure I had mistyped.
But the results speak for themselves. He lost close to 60 pounds, completely transformed his body, and is still training to this day. A sustainable plan is the only way to create a transformation that lasts.
The Secret Sauce to Success: Support and Accountability
