low-tox cleaning products

Gosh I’d love to be a billionaire.

I mean, right?

Here’s what I imagine the billionaire life feels like:

Going to the grocery store and buying organic toilet paper. Only the best for these billionaire cheeks, amen?

Costco; every weekend. Without the “oh gawd, ok we gotta go straight home” at the end when you see the total.

Billionaire me makes no mention of how expensive iced coffee is getting. $12 for a 12 oz? Who cares! I’ll take 2, just for fun.

You might be asking yourself, “Tor, why are we talking about billionaires organic butt cheeks…?”

And that would be a fair question.

My POINT is that sadly, I am not a billionaire- but that’s lucky for you because this means I GOT THE TEA on how to get my house (and everything else) clean on 👏🏼a 👏🏼budget!! 👏🏼

We’ve already talked about how I thought I’d never go non-tox, and how if you’re ready to dive in- there’s a way to do it without losing your mind.

So today I’m going to share the cheapest (and most effective) cleaning products I’ve found. These are all LOW TOX cleaning options that you can use without worrying about bringing more harsh chemicals into your home.

Here’s what’s in my low-tox cleaning cabinet:

Bon ami:

Homegirl has been AROUND THE BLOCK. Bon ami isn’t new but there’s a reason why our moms and grandmas cleaned with it- she’s legit. When ever something needs a good scrub, bon ami is the answer.

Sals suds:

A squirt of this into a spray bottle of water and you’ve got yourself a multi purpose cleaning solution! Useable all over your home: carpet, counters, floors, windows- you name it!

The best part is that when you buy a bottle of this, it will last you forever!

Castile:

I’m trying to remember what my life was like before I discovered Castile soap….

Sad? Terrible? Lackluster?

All jokes aside, I have used Castile soap as a swap for EVERYTHING. It makes a great multipurpose cleaner.

But also? I use it to refill all my foaming hand soap dispensers + I use it as body wash! It’s that clean! Some people even use it for fruit and veggies wash, shampoo, face wash and more. The uses for Castile soap are endless!

This is the one I use- it’s EWG verified, unscented, and organic.

Attitude cleaning concentrate:

If you’re reading through this like- “BRO, I DON’T WANNA MIX MY OWN STUFF THO”

This one is for you.

Attitude is a non-tox brand that I have used and loved for years (I buy my laundry detergent, dish soap, and dishwasher pods here). They have unscented options for every thing and the products that are scented are essential oil infused.

I haven’t used this cleaning concentrate before but I have friends who have and love it!!

One thing I love about attitude in general is that you  can earn points when you buy and they sell “refill options” so you can buy in bulk and order less often.

I’m not an affiliate with them, but this link will get you $20 off your purchase!

Thieves concentrate:

This one is probably the most expensive of all the products in my cleaning cabinet- I added it to the list because I love the scent when I’m cleaning my house. I bought a big refill jar almost two years ago and I’m no where near the bottom. I just add a little bit to my cleaning solutions and it adds just enough of a fresh smell to the whole bottle.

Swedish dish cloth:

I love Swedish dishcloths for cleaning because you can use them and then wash them. Maybe it’s just me, but I hate sponges. I feel like they are packed full of germs after you clean with them. These cloths give me peace of mind because I can toss them in the laundry and feel good to go for next time

These are 10/10 especially if you are making an effort to reduce your waste in 2024.

Amber glass bottles:

You’ll need something to put your new cleaning products in, and this is one of my favs. I prefer no plastic where I can and these glass bottles are just so much hardier. Truly a one time purchase (which I love).

That’s it! I was so overwhelmed with cost when I started the process of swapping products to lower tox options but I’ve found that cleaning with these products is actually much more affordable. They last longer, they work better, and they don’t bring harsh chemicals into your home.

I might not be a billionaire (yet 🤪) but low-tox cleaning on a budget is one thing I’ve got down to a science!

Let me know which ones you plan to try first!

xo,

Victoria
